Hi Folks
A bit of a miscellany on the blog today...
so here goes..
A few weeks back we visited Bath and Bristol to check out universities for my daughter and whilst wondering around Bath we stumbled upon a bric & brac market. Not a lot of interesting stuff but my eye was caught by a framed flag...
This is of course one of the symbols of the British Union of Fascists and in near perfect condition for the princely sum of £49.00. Not being of this political hue there was no way I could justify such a purchase but it did make me think if the trader knew what he had on his hands and so prominently on display...
As you all know Salute was held last weekend and Wargames Illustrated were selling their latest issue along with a free giveaway of a 28mm Simon de Montfort. This was packed away for reading on the journey home.
Imagine to my surprise when I came across the article detailing Paul Mason's build of Upsheet Creek.
There was my name Eric the Shed in print. Apparently it was my nom de guerre that inspired Paul to name all his buildings and characters after the attendees of BLAM. There wasn't a picture of the final shed in the article so here is one from BLAM Last year.
So a big thank you to Paul for his kind words and raising the blogs profile in this great journal.
Whilst I am on the subject of Salute I thought I might share the impact of my posting of photos up on the blog.
Having left Salute around 3.30pm I hopped home (about an hours journey) and spent the next two hours downloading, cropping and sifting through the 140+ photos I had taken of the event. By 6.30pm I posted with threads opened up on various forums.
Over the next three days I have seen my page hit counter go skywards. In all over 4000 page hits on that post alone. Working on the basis that each of these hits represents just one person that's an awful lot of wargamers visiting my blog. Thank you to those who have passed on their comments here and on the threads elsewhere.
The picture below shows progress up to 28th April - as of the time of posting this number stands at 4684.
I mentioned in the posting that the number of tattoos on display by attendees had significantly grown. Can I please state that this is in no way meant to be a criticism but rather an observation. I have no opinion on this matter and if I have caused offence with this comment I apologise.
Until next time
That's a lot of hits for 1 post!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt only seems to be one person who took offence to your observation about the tattoos. From his manner, I'd suggest he lives under a bridge and preys on wandering goats.
ReplyDeleteOver my 3 Salute posts, it looks like I've got about 500 hits on each but I haven't publicised them on forums. I think I saw one blog link to mine. TMP definitely generates a lot of hits for posts about major shows - I think it's all those gamers who can't get to the shows themselves, seeking out pewter pr0n on the web :)
My Salute post stands at a humble 868. We're off to Bristol and Bath in June for the same reason...what's your daughter planning to do there?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tamsin, I wasn't offended by the tattoo remark. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs for the Salute post, I think you were one of the first to post one, so early birds and worms won out I think.
reckon that flag is worth a hell of a lot more than £48
ReplyDeleteYou idiot! You should of brought that! The arm bands go for 600-750£ av seen main pole flags for £1600 in bad condition. That is probably worth £700-£1000 BUF stuff is very rare.
