An e-bay bargain is won

For some time now I have been browsing ebay for some siege engine stuff for my tales of Robin Hood. I then discovered an offer that I would have a speculative punt on...

the 1/72 scale Zvesda Siege tower...I put in a bid of £1.40 (+£4.00 postage) and a few days later won the deal.

I should have mentioned that the siege tower came with not just one pack of siege engines....

Not two packs of siege engines.......

But three packs of siege engines....

With each pack retailing for over £6 I was well chuffed with my bargain...

Polar Adventures - More Figures & supplies

Postie was good today and brought me two parcels - just a few more figures for the Polar Adventures project...

Earlier this year I had the fortune to see 'Silent Invaders' Skirmish Scavenge and Survive game in the flesh at BLAM and had the pleasure of pushing some lead around his fabulous snow covered town.

The lead in question came from his own range of figures and some of these are ideal for the 'armed civvies' I want to have at my Polar base.

Polar Adventures - part 2

So here is the second part of my Polar Adventures thread...

With the weather breaking for the better I was able to get down to the shed and start on the base boards for the Polar Adventures project.

I started with the standard 9mm MDF squares that have become the terrain boards of choice in the shed. These are all 50cm x 50cm square. Sixteen boards cost me c£28 cut from my B&Q (New Malden) - Its best to buy the really big 8ft x 4ft sheets and to get the store to cut them for you.

I did try Champion timber but they wanted £24/sheet plus 50p per cut - so B&Q won hands down.

First up I primed the boards with white emulsion paint.

Once the primer was dry I liberally covered the whole board in PVA glue and then covered the whole board with sand, grit and ballast. This is a messy job !

With one board done I covered a further nine before running out of basing material. This reminds me that I now need to find an alternative stockist to Modelzone now that it has gone belly up. I left all these boards to dry overnight.

This morning the boards got their first coat of paint - again white emulsion (as it cheap). I plan to put on about three coats the top one being acrylic for a stronger bond.


Hopefully you will agree the 'snow & ice texture' is coming through.

Polar Adventures - Part 1

Happy New Year

Apologies that things have been a bit slow on the blog update front but I have been rather busy over the Xmas period and so not much Eric time..

However hopefully the New Year will see a new purpose and of course the start of my new project - Ice Station Omega - an Antarctic/Arctic skirmish game set in the near future

To kick things off I managed to order a few bits in the run up to Xmas and was successful in passing off the packages as Xmas presents to myself!

First up are some rather splendid chaps called Snow Troopers,. I bought twenty in total so this should sort out the first force. What you can see in the photos below are the figures remounted on washers (they come with slotta bases) and primed grey then white. Proper paintjobs to follow.

Now of course these guys are going to need vehicles and after asking around I was drawn to the vehicles sold on the Daemonscape website  there are the four tracked versions formerly made by GZG.

Cautionary note these models will require pinning before assembly
